Into the Olympic Vault: Scott Hamilton

During my younger years, my television screen would be occupied by 5 things: Atlanta Braves, MacGyver, TGIF’s Friday night lineup, Nickelodeon (Legends of the Hidden Temple, Wild & Crazy Kids, Double Dare, and Salute Your Shorts among others) and thanks to Mother Dearest – figure skating, especially when the likes of Kristi Yamaguchi, Nancy Kerrigan, Tara Lapinski, Brian Boitano, Todd Eldredge and Scott Hamilton performed on the ice.

Being young and immature, I didn’t watch the ladies because they were . . . well . . . ladies; I watched in the hopes of seeing them fall during every Salchow, loop, axel, toe loop, flip, and Lutz. That was a mouthful. (That’s what she said.) With the guys, Hamilton was my favorite for his creative performances and signature backflip, a move that is illegal in USFSA and Olympic competition. When I saw his inclusion on the Allen & Ginter autograph checklist, I had to pick one up. It arrived today.
