In mid-January, the Chicago Cubs showcased new 2014 jerseys, primarily throwbacks. Today, the Braves also unveiled a new jersey for this upcoming season. During 5 scheduled home games, the Braves will show their appreciation for the United States military, by wearing new red jerseys with navy and white piping, and navy “Braves” script with white stars.

As you can see, the tomahawk is a notable exclusion. Given the tomahawk isn’t exactly an American icon or symbol, I understand why it was left off, but I would have loved to see something unique like a bald eagle.
I’m all for supporting our active and retired military veterans, so I’ll be ordering one of these and one of the Braves’ cream jersey. Putting aside the throwback jerseys that I would also like to own, getting these two would complete my jersey closet.
For the record, I made sure I wore the correct jersey (alternate red) when I flew to Atlanta for Chipper’s jersey retirement pre-game ceremony last June.
There’s also a camouflage “Atlanta” script jersey from last year to honor the USMC, but I don’t see a replica version available on the MLB.com online store or Majestic’s website . . . and I’m not going to spend $200-300 for an authentic or go through eBay for a possible knock-off.
