Into the Shoe Box: Chipper Jones

SP Game Film: Chipper Jones

1997 SP Game Film: Chipper Jones

One of the more unique cards in my collection, this 1997 SP Game Film insert of Chipper Jones is short printed to 500 copies and has acetate embedded and designed to make it look like film slides.

Chipper Jones is another favorite of mine. He is one of those rare athletes that played his entire career for a single organization. The only other athletes that come to mind that are also Hall of Fame bound are Tom Brady (New England Patriots), Ray Lewis (Retired – Baltimore Ravens), Kobe Bryant (Los Angeles Lakers), Tim Duncan (San Antonio Spurs), Dirk Nowitzki (Dallas Mavericks), Mariano Rivera (Retired – New York Yankees), and Derek Jeter (New York Yankees). It’s a dying breed.

Chipper is also one of those rare switch hitters that was successful from both sides of the plate, batting .304 right-handed and .303 left-handed. The Atlanta Braves’ division rivals would agree. Here are Jones’ career statistics against the NL East:

Florida / Miami Marlins 154 259 48 5 40 166 144 .297 .393 .502
Washington Nationals / Montreal Expos 174 281 62 4 41 161 176 .299 .406 .504
Philadelphia Phillies 166 280 71 3 49 152 169 .331 .441 .596
New York Mets 168 265 46 4 49 159 147 .309 .406 .543
